TradePesa has always run on M-Pesa - great if you're in Kenya, useless if you're not. That's changed. You can now deposit and withdraw using USDC, a US-dollar stablecoin, on the Solana network - no bank account, no M-Pesa number, no Kenyan phone required. Here's exactly how it works, written for people who have never touched crypto before.
Why USDC, and why Solana?
USDC is a stablecoin - a cryptocurrency deliberately designed to always be worth $1, unlike Bitcoin or Ethereum's coin, which swing in price constantly. That matters here: depositing or withdrawing shouldn't expose you to a coin losing 10% of its value while the transaction is in flight. Solana was picked as the network because its fees are tiny and transactions confirm in seconds, not minutes.
How to deposit
- Get some USDC. If you don't already hold crypto, the usual route is an exchange like Binance. Buy with your local currency directly if it's offered, or use P2P trading - buying crypto from another person, paying them with M-Pesa or a bank transfer. If you end up holding something other than USDC (commonly USDT, or a coin like SOL), use the exchange's Convert feature to swap it into USDC before moving on.
- Grab your TradePesa deposit address. On the Deposit Money page, select "Crypto - USDC on Solana." Your personal address loads automatically. It's permanently yours, so this is a one-time lookup.
- Send it, on the Solana network. From your exchange, tap Send, then choose "Withdraw Asset" - not "Send to [Exchange] User", "Pay", or "P2P Trading", since those keep the funds inside the exchange and never reach TradePesa. Select USDC, paste the address, and make sure the network shown is Solana specifically - not Ethereum, not BNB Chain, not Polygon. This is the step that actually matters.
- Wait a couple of minutes. Once the transfer confirms on-chain, TradePesa detects it and credits K$Coin to your balance automatically. No form to fill in, nothing to submit, no admin waiting to approve it.
How to withdraw
- Get a receiving address. On your exchange, look for "Deposit Asset" under USDC (not P2P, not an internal transfer option), select the Solana network, and copy the address it shows you. A Solana wallet app like Phantom works too.
- Submit the request on TradePesa. On the Withdraw Money page, choose Crypto (USDC), enter how much K$Coin you want to withdraw, and paste that address. Double-check it before submitting - crypto transfers cannot be reversed once sent.
- Wait for admin review. Unlike deposits, withdrawals go through the same manual review M-Pesa withdrawals already use, as a safety step before real money moves. Once approved, the USDC is sent on-chain and typically lands within a couple of minutes.
The one mistake that actually costs money
USDC exists on several different blockchains - Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, BNB Chain, and others each have their own separate version. They are not interchangeable, and TradePesa's deposit address only works for Solana-network USDC. Sending on the wrong network to the right-looking address doesn't bounce back with an error - it simply doesn't arrive, and there's no way to recover it. Every exchange lets you pick the network before you confirm a send. Always check it says Solana.
Worth knowing before you start
TradePesa itself has no minimum deposit amount - whatever arrives gets credited. Withdrawals share the same roughly-$1 minimum as other withdrawal methods. Separately, your exchange will likely enforce its own minimum withdrawal amount before it lets you send anything out - that's between you and the exchange, unrelated to TradePesa, and worth checking before you try.
